Highlights of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s visit to UK

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid an official visit to the UK from June 28 to June 30 with a view to deepening bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

The top Vietnamese legislator and a high-ranking delegation of the NA arrived in the UK on June 28 at the invitation of Lord Speaker of the House of Lords John McFall and Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

With regard to economic affairs, the two sides believe that two-way trade and investment have enjoyed dynamic development due to legal foundations provided by the UK - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA). In terms of education, NA Chairman Hue asks the UK to provide additional government scholarships for Vietnamese students and to encourage major universities to open branches in Vietnam.

To foster bilateral ties, the two sides agree to boost visits at all levels, share experience in parliamentary activities, as well as reinforcing co-ordination to monitor and promote the implementation of the co-operation deals and strategic co-operation projects. This should be done to support the Vietnamese and British Governments, localities, businesses, and citizens to increase exchanges, mutual understanding, and mutual co-operation.

Meeting with visiting NA Chairman Hue on June 29, Lord Speaker McFall praises Vietnamese net zero emission commitments made at the recent 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) and affirms that the UK will fully support and assist the country in meeting its commitments.

Both sides are delighted to see close co-ordination at multilateral mechanisms such as the UN, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and the ASEAN-UK co-operation framework. The  country consistently supports the UK in increasing ties with ASEAN, while the UK supports ASEAN’s central role and it being an important bridge between Vietnam and the EU.
