Fresh storm begins to form near East Sea

VOV.VN - A new storm named Atsani is in the process of forming in the northeastern waters of the Philippines and is anticipated to move west-northwest at speeds of 15 km before entering the East Sea during the course of the next 24 hours, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

Forecasters stated that at 7 a.m. on November 6 the storm was located at approximately 180 km southeast of Taiwan (China), with the strongest winds near its centre reaching between 90 km and 100 km per hour.

Over the course of the subsequent 48 hours, the storm is forecast to move west before changing direction to head southwest at speeds of 20 km per hour, at which point it will then weaken into a tropical depression.

Moving forward, at 7:00 p.m. on November 8 the tropical depression's centre is likely to be situated roughly 400 km northeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago with the strongest winds near its centre reaching between 40 km and 60 km per hour.

The central and central highlands region is forecast to endure heavy downpours as of November 6, especially in localities such as Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Phu Yen, and Dak Lak, with total rainfall expected to measure between 100 mm and over 250 mm.

Fishermen have been urged to avoid the path of the storm and tropical depression, while residents in localities from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen and the Central Highlands region have been told to prepare for the possibility of severe flooding, landslides, and an evacuation from low-lying areas to minimise the impact of the weather event.

Due to the impact of a tropical low-pressure zone that has weakened from Typhoon Goni, provinces from Quang Nam to Binh Dinh are expected to endure heavy rainfall measuring between 150 mm and 300 mm.
