Deputy PM, Japan’s Gunma prefecture discuss bilateral ties

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Governor of Japan’s Gunma prefecture Yamamoto Ichita discussed measures to support Vietnamese citizens and augment bilateral cooperation during their phone talks on November 18.

During the phone conversation, Deputy PM Minh showed his elation at the development of the two nations’ extensive strategic partnership as well as Vietnam’s cooperation with Gunma in particular. He was appreciative of the Gunma administration’s measures to support Vietnamese people there such as setting up a hotline providing COVID-19-related advice in Vietnamese and offering help for foreigners, including Vietnamese, who contract the disease.

The Vietnamese Government is carrying out a range of measures to help its citizens in Japan and hopes that Gunma authorities will continue assisting Vietnamese people there to cope with the pandemic, Minh told the Gunma
Governor.

Minh hailed the prefecture’s enhancement of exchange with Vietnam and asked Yamamoto Ichita to coordinate in accelerating the reception of Vietnamese workers and apprentices, intensifying cross-cultural exchange, and incentivizing Gunma businesses to increase investment in Vietnam.

In response, the Gunma Governor pledged to work  hand in hand with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan to actively help Vietnamese citizens stabilise their lives and realize COVID-19 countermeasures.

Japanese enterprises, including those from Gunma, are greatly interested in and speak of their appreciation for Vietnam’s investment climate, Yamamoto Ichita said, while affirming that his prefecture’s administration will continue assisting and encouraging local businesses to invest in the Southeast Asian nation.

He proposed both sides bolster cooperation to offer a favourable environment for Vietnamese apprentices in Gunma. He also suggested the Gunma Prefectural Women’s University and universities of Vietnam strengthen exchange.

The Vietnamese diplomat welcomed the governor’s proposals, saying that he will ask relevant ministries, sectors and the Vietnamese Embassy to discuss with Gunma so as to carry out the proposals in the best possible way.

Gunma is now home to around 10,000 Vietnamese, the highest ratio of Vietnamese nationals of the population in the East Asian nation.
