COVID-19 infections total 8,260, HCM City leads with 4,052

VOV.VN - A total of 4,246 new COVID-19 cases, including 21 imported infections were recorded on August 1 evening, sending the daily infection tally to 8,260, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the 8,597 domestic cases recorded, Ho Chi Minh City reported the highest number at 4,052, followed by Binh Duong (2,179), Long An (569), Dong Nai (425), Khanh Hoa (298), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (184), Tay Ninh (102), and Can Tho (100).

Dong Thap, Ben Tre and Hanoi saw the highest number of double-digit infections with 86, 82, and 81, respectively.

Besides, Soc Trang recorded 53 fresh cases, Vinh Long with 50, Phu Yen with 49, Hau Giang with 41, Binh Thuan with 32, Tra Vinh with 31, Kien Giang with 24, An Giang with 21, Binh Phuoc with 20, Binh Dinh with 16, Dak Lak  with 15, Thua Thien Hue with 14, and Quang Nam with 11.

The remaining localities registered single-digit infections in each province.

Notably, 2,005 were detected among the local community, with the remaining being found in quarantine or in areas currently under lockdown.

Vietnam has to date documented 152,044 domestic, and 2,262 imported cases

The number of domestic infections detected during the latest wave of the pandemic stood at 150,474, with 40,383 patients having recovered from the disease.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced the discharge of an additional 4,423 COVID-19 patients, thereby raising the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic to 43,157.

Four out of 62 provinces and cities have now gone 14 days without recording any fresh cases of local transmission, while 9 other provinces have recorded no secondary infections.

Meanwhile Ho Chi Minh City continues enforcing social distancing measures under the Prime Minister’s Directive 16 for an additional 14 days starting from zero hours on August 2.

The decision was signed by Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong on August 1.

The southern metropolis has gone 63 days of social distancing at different levels but is still seeing no signs of abating in terms of local infections.

More than 94,000 domestically-infected cases were recorded in HCM City since the latest coronavirus outbreak started more than three months ago.
