VFF signs new contract with Korean goalkeeping coach

As the national team’s new coach, Hyun-tae will be responsible for providing training sessions for the senior national team, in addition to national youth teams between from U16 to U23 level, according to the VFF.

Hyun-tae, 59, had previously worked as goalkeeping coach for the RoK’s national team during the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, during which time he worked alongside Park Hang-seo, the current head coach of the Vietnamese national team. He also coached the RoK’s Olympic team during from 1998 to 2000.

Furthermore, he has also been the goalkeeping coach of a number of strong clubs in the K-League, such as FC Seoul, Jeju United, and Incheon United.

Previously, he had been named as one of the most outstanding faces of the K-League in both 1985 and 1986.

At present, the VFF is completing the necessary procedures for him to come to Vietnam to start working immediately, although this is dependent on the development of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the availability of international flights.

The Vietnamese national men’s football team are scheduled to gather in Hanoi from December 6 to December 28 in preparation for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and AFF Cup, both of which have been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the U22 team will train in November and December ahead of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will be held in Vietnam next year.
