Defence Minister welcomes Cambodian General on official visit

General Tea Banh’s visit aims to maintain high-level contact and strengthen strategic trust that has been developed between the two countries over the years.

The visit also presents an opportunity for the two sides to evaluate the results of bilateral defense cooperation in recent times and outline orientations for cooperation in the coming time.

The visit is taking place at a time when defense cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, has still yielded positive results, continuing to be one of the important pillars of the Vietnam – Cambodia relations.

Both sides, along with maintaining high-level meetings and contact in flexible forms, have effectively implemented contents of cooperation, including searching and repatriating the remains of volunteer Vietnamese soldiers in Cambodia during wartime and effectively maintaining security and order in the border area.

They have also maintained cooperation in military medicine and training between their armies and agencies.

Marking 55 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Cambodia in 2022, the Defense Ministries of the two countries jointly organized a range of events of great significance in bilateral relations. Among them were the first Vietnam-Cambodia border defense friendship exchange in May 2022, the 45th anniversary of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey towards overthrowing the Pol Pot genocidal regime in June 2022, the annual meeting between the Defense Ministers of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and the first joint rescue and rescue exercise between the three countries’ armies in Laos in September 2022.

The Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam also supported its Cambodian counterpart in organizing conferences during Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2022.
