Additional 48,717 fresh COVID-19 cases added to national tally on April 4

VOV.VN - A total of 48,717 people across 62 localities nationwide were confirmed to have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2-virus, a drop of 2,015 from the previous day, the Ministry of Health reported on April 4.

The majority of the latest cases were detected in Hanoi, with the capital recording a total of 5,868 new infections.

The three localities reporting the highest number of cases behind Hanoi include Dak Lak with 3,925 cases, Bac Giang with 2,649 cases, and Yen Bai with 2,350 cases.

Over the past 24 hours, a total of 42 COVID-19 patients have died due to the disease, thereby pushing up the death toll caused by the virus to more than 42,642, or 0.4% of all infections.

In terms of the latest wave which hit the country in late April, over 9.8 million cases have now been confirmed, with more than 7.8 million of them having since recovered.

The same day also saw the Ministry of Health announce 55,875 recoveries, thereby taking the total number of recovered cases up to 7,843,835.

As of April 4, with over 206 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines now having been administered.

Furthermore, the country ranked 24th out of 227 territories in terms of the total number of COVID-19 fatalities, with the number of deaths per one million people standing at 130th in terms of countries and territories globally. Compared with Asia, the total number of deaths was 25th out of 49, third in ASEAN, with deaths per one million people ranking 25th out of 49 Asian countries and territories, fourth in the regional bloc.
