Religion unity creates Vietnam strength

VOV.VN - These days Christians in Vietnam are joyfully celebrating Christmas, a festive atmosphere is spreading in parishes and dioceses.

To mark the occasion, leaders of the Party, State, and local governments reiterate and acknowledge the pivotal role and contributions made by Christians to national construction and defense, saying the unity of religions has strengthened the national unity bloc and made Vietnam stronger.

Throughout history Vietnamese religious followers have always stood side by side non-religious people in national development and defense. In an equitable legal environment, religious followers have contributed considerably to the nation.

Joyful anticipation of Christmas

Approaching Christmas 2023 a vibrant energy is enveloping Ninh Binh, with churches, parishes, and bustling streets becoming lively hubs for both locals and tourists. The air is filled with excitement as people converge to explore, capture memorable moments, and photograph the serene scenes that encapsulate the essence of a peaceful Christmas.

The iconic Phat Diem Stone Cathedral emanates a sparkling brilliance, adorned with a myriad of colors. Parishioners are animatedly engaged in decorating charming miniatures, enhancing the festive spirit within the Church.

In Hanoi, the Cathedral and other churches open to welcome thousands of visitors. Hang Ma street, renowned for its festive decorations, experiences a surge of activity as a multitude of customers brave the cold weather to shop and capture the enchanting displays. Christmas decorative items create a festive ambiance that permeates every corner.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the central area is alive as iconic landmarks like Tan Dinh Church in District 3, Notre Dame Cathedral, and expansive shopping centers unveil their splendid decorations. Notably, the area around Diamond Plaza has transformed into a lively hub, adorned with embellishments that have enticed numerous visitors seeking enjoyment and photo opportunities.

Ngoc Quyen, a resident of District 7, said, "I brought my kid downtown to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere. Other people are doing the same. I have decorated my house with a Christmas tree and a stone cave."

In Da Nang, the marketplace is bustling with shops dedicated to Christmas decorations and gifts experiencing a surge in sales, offering a wide array of items to enthusiastic shoppers.

Ho Bao Phuc, a resident of Son Tra district, said, "This festive season, the Christmas spirit is alive and vibrant. I purchased a Christmas tree to decorate our home, and I complemented it with glitter bows and various accessories. I also prepared gifts for my family members and bought decorations at reasonable prices."

Religions’ contributions acknowledged

During visits to parishes and dioceses, Party and State leaders acknowledged the Christians’ active participation in patriotic emulation movements and production, particularly their outstanding contributions to social protection, humanitarian activities, health care, and education. Those activities reflect the good values of Christian people with the spirit "Serving our fellow citizens means serving God".

Extending his greetings to the Archdiocese of Hue last week, President Vo Van Thuong, said, "Christians of the Hue Archdiocese have excelled in fulfilling the noble tasks of honoring God and demonstrating love for their fellow countrymen, contributing to national socio-economic development and improving people’s lives."

Christians and other religious followers have contributed significantly to social protection and humanitarian activities.

Religious organizations have established 300 schools, 2,000 preschool education facilities, 12 vocational training institutions, 500 medical centers and clinics, and 113 social assistance establishments. These institutions have made significant contributions to maintaining social order and ensuring security.

At its 8th plenum in October 2023, the Party Central Committee adopted a Resolution on the continuation of promoting the traditions and strength of great national unity for building a more prosperous and happy nation.

The resolution underscores the importance of fostering solidarity between religious and non-religious individuals and among people adhering to different faiths. The solidarity and contributions of Christians and other religious communities have ensured a peaceful environment for national development.
