Van Don - Mong Cai expressway opened to traffic
VOV.VN - The Van Don - Mong Cai expressway was officially inaugurated on September 1 to help remove transport bottlenecks and enhance trade connectivity between the northern province of Quang Ninh and the entire Red River Delta region.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasised that the Van Don - Mong Cai Expressway will significantly turn Quang Ninh into a strategic transit point in the East Asia - Southeast Asia - ASEAN - China region, and link with the “Two Corridors, One Belt” cooperation zone between Vietnam and China, whilst simultaneously expanding Gulf of Tonkin inter-regional co-operation area under the ASEAN - China Free Trade Area.
Thanks to its advantages, the expressway is expected to provide fresh impetus for connectivity between the key economic region in the north and the Red River Delta of Vietnam.
He stressed that the development of this vital artery is to realise the Party and State’s policy on developing transport infrastructure, particularly the expressway system, in a bid to help remove transport bottlenecks.
The Van Don - Mong Cai Expressway runs for a total length of 80.23 kilometres, connecting Van Don International Airport and the access road to Bac Luan 2 Bridge on the Vietnam - China border in Mong Cai city.
Built in just over two years, the expressway features four lanes for vehicles running at a design speed of 120 km per hour. It is expected to shorten the travel time from Hanoi to Mong Cai city to three hours.
