COVID-19: 2 imported cases raise national tally to 1,407

VOV.VN - The cumulative number of coronavirus infections in Vietnam has increased to 1,407 after two more imported cases were confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Dec. 17.

The two patients are Vietnamese citizens who returned to Vietnam from Myanmar and Saudi Arabia on Dec. 8 and Dec. 12, respectively.

They tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus during their 14-day quarantine time.

Relevant Vietnamese agencies and domestic airlines have been arranging flights to repatriate the citizens left stranded overseas due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of the returnees were detected to have carried the virus upon their arrival in the country.

However, they were put in quarantine as soon as they landed at airports, thus posing no risk to the community, the Ministry of Health said.

The same day, Vietnam announced that 11 more COVID-19 patients were released from hospital after fully recovering from the disease.

To date 1,263 COVID-19 patients have gone on to make a full recovery from the disease in Vietnam.
