Violent floodwaters wash away four Korean travelers in Central Highlands

VOV.VN - A flash flood hit Cu Lan Village tourist resort in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong on October 24 afternoon, washing away a tourist car carrying four Korean nationals on board.

When the incident happened at around 2:00 p.m., a car controlled by a driver from Cu Lan Village tourist resort carrying four Korean travelers was moving along the stream inside the resort.

Suddenly, upstream floodwaters hit and swept away the car. The driver was lucky to swim to shore, but the four Korean tourists inside the car were swept away by the floodwaters.

As soon as the incident happened, rescue forces were dispatched to the scene to search for the tourists. At 3:30 p.m., they found the bodies of two female tourists before recovering the bodies of the two other tourists an hour later.

On hearing about the news, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended his condolences to relatives of the victims’ families.

He asked relevant agencies to launch an investigation into the cause of the incident.

He also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Embassy if the Republic of Korea in Hanoi and relevant agencies to promptly handle the case and support funeral arrangements for the victims.

According to staff of the resort, it was not raining when the incident happened. They said the tour is the favourite with visitors, and the flash flood has never happened for more than 10 years since the resort came into operation.
