NA Chairman hails SK Group’s business co-operation with Vietnamese partners

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his great appreciation for the results of the Republic of Korea (RoK) SK Group's business co-operation activities with Vietnamese partners while receiving Chey Tae Won, chairman of SK Group, in Hanoi on October 27.

During the meeting, the top Vietnamese legislator welcomed SK Group’s investment in a high-tech biodegradable material factory project in Hai Phong, as well as outlining the positives of SK Group’s active support for the National Innovation Center in Hoa Lac (NIC).

NA Chairman Hue went on to express his belief that the Center's activities will be a push to promote innovative startups in the Vietnamese market, thereby further contributing to the process of accelerating economic transformation and forming more hubs around the nation.

SK Group will participate in collaboration activities and technology demonstration at the Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition 2023, as well as co-ordinating with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to organise the Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen Energy Development Forum in the nation within the framework of the inauguration of the National Innovation Center.

Praising the Group for upholding social responsibility, the Vietnamese NA leader thanked the chairman and SK Group for donating US$1 million to the country’s COVID-19 Vaccine Fund during the pandemic period.

In response, the SK Group leader rejoiced over the results gradually obtained after the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on joint ties between the two countries on green growth was signed by the two countries during NA Chairman Hue’s official visit to the RoK back in 2021.

As a result, the National Innovation Center will be inaugurated and officially put into operation on October 28, while co-operation orientations for green development between SK Group and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) were outlined.

Chey Tae Won said that SK Group currently holds many technologies, whilst also having many subsidiaries related to the field of green technology. He therefore affirmed his group's readiness to co-operate with Vietnamese partners in green energy transition as a way of helping the country to promote its potential and be proactive in energy production.

In his role as chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he stated that KCCI is co-ordinating with the Vietnam Confederation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in the field of private business development. He expressed his hope that small-scale innovative businesses will appear more and more in Vietnam.

NA Chairman Hue highly appreciated the results of co-operation between SK Group and Vietnamese partners, with high hope that SK will share relevant experience to contribute to building a legal framework consistent with practice to improve the Vietnamese business investment environment.

He welcomed and backed SK's proposal for further collaboration in the fields of energy, semiconductors, and ICT in the near future.

Stating that research and development of innovation and creativity, along with the application of science and technology, are Vietnam's top priorities, NA Chairman Hue proposed that SK Group continue to step up co-operation with the country in the process of energy conversion and implementing a roadmap to reduce carbon emissions. This is part of efforts to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, thereby actively contributing to Vietnamese economic development, including sharing experience in improving institutions and policies related to this field.

The NA of Vietnam supports and is ready to create a favourable legal corridor for investment, production, and business activities of the domestic and foreign business community, including Korean businesses and SK Group, NA Chairman Hue told the SK Group leader, adding that the nation will accompany and offer favourable conditions for the Group to carry out effective, successful, and sustainable business investment activities in Vietnam.
