Born in 1997 to a poor family in Ho Chi Minh City, Le Tu Chinh took up track and field after winning a competition at her school. In 2008, she was selected for professional training by coach Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong.

“Track and field is really hard. I met Chinh by chance. She really stood out from the others. I thought of recruiting her and providing her with professional training,” said Ms. Huong.

In 2016, Chinh won her first gold medal in the women’s 100 meters at the National Track and Field Championship. One year later, she won 3 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia. She trained in the US and competed in the Asian Games last year, but fell short.

“That was the first time I took part in the ASIAD. It was a great  honor for me and I tried my best,” Chinh said.

After several more failures, Tu Chinh found success at the 2018 National Sports Festival and the 2019 National Track and Field Championship in Ho Chi Minh City.

“I will do my utmost to win a gold medal at this competition. The biggest challenge for me is surpassing myself,” she talked to VOV about her goal at the upcoming SEA Games.
