OVs in Fukuoka celebrate Lunar New Year festival

VOV.VN - Numerous overseas Vietnamese and international friends enjoyed a festive celebration from January 15 to January 21 in Prefecture Fukuoka of Japan ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday (known as Tet in Vietnam).

The event was co-hosted by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, local authorities, and the Vietnamese Association in the locality.

Vietnamese people re-enacted a space full of the Tet atmosphere, by cooking Chung glutinous rice cake, and decorating an ancestral altar, along with putting on a wide range of activities such as lion dances, an Ao dai (traditional dress) fashion show, and numerous folk games.

Furthermore, visitors gained greater insights into traditional Japanese culture through a Kimono fashion show and delicious Japanese food on offer at the event.

There were also impressive performances put on by young Vietnamese and Japanese students and artists, especially the final round of AVF Got Talent 2022 and Miss Vietnam-Kyushu 2022.

An exhibition was also held during the occasion to introduce each culture’s history and to promote cultural exchange between Fukuoka and Vietnam.

On display at the event were a range of images showcasing Vietnam and its people, co-operation between Vietnam and Fukuoka, together with some products from craft villages and specialties from some Vietnamese provinces and cities.

Participants raised nearly VND2.6 billion to support the Vietnam National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund, according to organisers.

At present, roughly 45,000 Vietnamese people are living, studying, and working in the Kyushu-Okinawa region, of which there are over 19,000 in Fukuoka.
