Special message from State President’s Laos visit this week

VOV.VN - The working trip to Laos on April 10-11 by State President Vo Van Thuong delivers a special message, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung.

The visit is of special significance because it takes place at a time when Lao people are going to celebrate their traditional New Year festival Bunpimay, said the ambassador in an interview granted to a Vientiane-based VOV resident correspondent.

“The visit is like millions of best wishes that Vietnamese people would like to extend to Lao people who will enter the new year with good luck and greater achievements,” said Hung.

He noted that Vietnam and Laos treasure a special bond, and it’s a common occurrence that senior Vietnamese and Lao leaders often choose their either country for the first overseas visit after they assume new leadership positions.

“This is a very good tradition that shows the special affection between close and loyal comrades and brothers,” he stressed.

Vo Van Thuong was elected State President of Vietnam at an extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi on March 2, 2023.

He will pay an official visit to Laos on April 10-11 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, and President Thongloun Sisoulith. The visit demonstrates the strong determination of the two countries’ leaders to cultivate and elevate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos to new heights.

Hung said the Vietnam – Laos relations are developing positively. The two sides are actively implementing bilateral cooperation agreements, yielding many important results in all fields.

“Amid unpredictable and complicated developments regionally and globally, President Thuong’s visit is expected to provide fresh impetus to the Vietnam – Laos relationship, making it an active factor, contributing to strengthening peace, security, stability and cooperation in Asia and the wider world,” he elaborated.

“The visit will reiterate the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of attaching great importance to and giving the highest priority to consolidating and cultivating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos,” the diplomat stressed.

President Thuong is scheduled to hold talks with President Sisoulith, and meet with other senior Lao leaders, including the Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly, and head of the Lao Front for National Construction.

They will discuss measures to further increase political trust between the two Parties and States and promote the efficiency of bilateral cooperation, while exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

“I believe that the visit will be a great success, contributing to taking the relationship between Vietnam and Laos to new heights in the coming time,” said the ambassador.
