The event focused on tournaments and outstanding players who have the ability to win medals, and the general department will set up a plan for special consideration and appoint them to foreign training courses to ensure greater achievements.

In 2010, chess players representing Vietnam will compete in five tournaments including the 16^th Asian Games, the U8-18 World Youth Chess Championship, the U8-20 Asian Youth Chess Championships, the U8-18 Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championships and a tournament for chess rankings.

Chinese chess players will participate in three events, including the 16^th Asian Games, the Asian Team Chess Championship and a tournament for chess rankings.

To gain high achievements, the general department’s officials proposed some measures such as organising national championship tournaments, investing more in material facilities for national sports training centres, promoting programmes to train gifted players and running training courses for coaches and referees meeting international standards.
