Chinese professor hails future Vietnamese economic prospects

VOV.VN - Professor Gu Yuanyang, former director of the World Economic and Political Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, has praised Vietnam's strong recovery and future development prospects, noting its containment of COVID-19 coupled with an impressive economic growth.

Despite being adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the country has successfully upheld the primacy of the socialist regime in adopting suitable COVID-19 prevention and social-economic development measures, he told Nhan Dan (People's) Newspaper’s resident correspondents. The Chinese professor added that through these efforts the nation has become a bright spot in economic growth, with such a success story being uncommon globally.

The Vietnamese economy is therefore projected to expand by around 6% this year by international organisations, he added.

In terms of the country’s future prospects in the medium- and long term, Prof. Yuanyang expressed his optimism that Vietnam can translate the goals set by the Communist Party of Vietnam's 13th National Congress into reality, rising from a lower-middle to upper-middle income nation.

These targets are achievable as the country possesses a strong foundation for robust and sustainable growth, he continued. Indeed, over 35 years of the “Doi moi” (renewal), Vietnam has not only weathered a number of socio-economic crises but has also achieved various historic successes, providing it with many valuable lessons.

More importantly, the country has the necessary components in terms of politics, institutions, social factors, technology, and international integration to enjoy such growth.
