EU provides EUR1.3 million to assist flood victims
VOV.VN - The EU has donated EUR1.3 million, equivalent to over VND35.6 billion, in critical humanitarian assistance to families who have been affected by severe flooding in central Vietnam since the beginning of October.
The aid will primarily focus on addressing the urgent needs of local people, with the majority of funding going to those in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.
“This contribution underlines our solidarity with the people of Vietnam, many of whom have suffered the loss of homes, livelihoods, and belongings in the wake of the devastating floods,” said Olivier Brouant, head of the EU’s humanitarian response in the Mekong region.
“The EU funding will support our humanitarian partners in delivering life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable, ensuring they have the means to get through this difficult time,” Brouant noted.
The funding, which has been drawn from part of the EU’s Acute Large Emergency Response Tool (ALERT), is to go towards supporting the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Save the Children, and World Vision as they strive to deliver assistance to needy people.
This includes the efficient distribution of hygiene kits and other essential relief items to those in need, while simultaneously ensuring that individuals have access to drinking water, sanitation facilities, and the promotion of good hygiene practices.
Cash transfers will also be provided, enabling people to purchase food or other items of their choice. As part of relief efforts, special attention will be given to those who are most vulnerable or from marginalised groups, including people with disabilities or households with no male presence.
