Philippe Troussier named among greatest AFC Asian Cup coaches
VOV.VN - Head coach of the Vietnamese national football team Philippe Troussier has been named among the greatest coaches in the history of the Asian Cup by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The article published on the website notes that the Frenchman, who was appointed Japan boss in 1998 after nearly a decade coaching in Africa, led a swashbuckling team to a second AFC Asian Cup title in Lebanon in 2000.
“The Samurai Blue scored 21 goals in just six matches, inflicting heavy losses on Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Iraq, before defeating the defending champion Saudis once again in the final in Beirut,” AFC wrote.
It also stressed that Troussier, who also coached Qatar at the 2004 edition of the continental tournament, will attempt to steer the Vietnamese national team to the top of the podium at the upcoming tournament in Qatar.
Among the greatest coaches to feature in the list were Khalil Al Zayani, Mohammad Ranjbar, Heshmat Mohajerani, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Ange Postecoglou, Zico, Félix Sánchez, Jorvan Vieira, and Alberto Zaccheroni.
