The World Bank (WB) Vietnam has selected 30 projects for awards totaling US$300,000 for Vietnam Innovation Day 2006, which is scheduled to be held in Hanoi in May.

The WB's Vietnam Innovation Day, which has been organised annually since 2003, is a gathering where innovative ideas that address local development challenges are encouraged.

The theme for the 2006 competition is “Disadvantaged Children and Youth with four sub-themes, namely “Quality education for disadvantaged children and youth”, “Street children and youth”, “Children and Youth out of school, out of work”, and “Participation and empowerment of children and youth in decision making”.

WB Vietnam director Klaus Rohland said this year's programme will help mobilise human and financial resources to improve disadvantaged children and youth's living conditions, especially those having difficulties in social service approaches.
