President Phuc presents Labour Hero title to outstanding scientists

VOV.VN - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc handed over the “Labour Hero in the Renewal Period” title on April 22 to the family of late Professor and Academic Vu Tuyen Hoang, former Secretary of the Party and President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA).

Prof. Hoang Chuong, director of the Centre for Research, Conservation, and Development of Traditional Culture at VUSTA, was also honoured with the title

To mark the occasion, the Independence Order was also bestowed on several other former VUSTA leaders.
During his remarks at the ceremony, President Phuc attributed the country’s various achievements to the great contributions made by generations of Vietnamese people, including scientists.

Most notably, Hoang’s creation of numerous varieties of rice which are resistant to both drought and flooding has been significant to the nation as it is an agriculture-based society hard hit by climate change. Indeed, Hoang’s invention has helped the country ensure that it has food self-sufficiency whilst also having enough for export, he said.

President Phuc went on to hailed Chuong’s contributions to preserving and promoting traditional culture, adding that this has been an invaluable asset of the nation.

The diverse and special culture creates plenty of advantages for the domestic tourism sector, whilst also boosting the desire to strengthen national solidarity and lure resources for the cause of national development, he continued.

Scientists must therefore play a crucial role in fulfilling the target of turning the nation into a developing country with a modern industry and high-middle income by 2030, along with being a developed country with high income by 2045, according to President Phuc.

He therefore requested that VUSTA work harder in order to improve the quality of human resources, attract more local talents, promote innovations and creations, whilst optimising scientific and technological advances in terms of national development in the time ahead.
