The Ministry of Health launched the National Nutrition Day in Hanoi on May 27 with the aim of raising people's awareness of the necessity of ingesting sufficient nutrients to stay healthy.

The event carries the message, "Vitamin A, iron and iodine are necessary for health, brainpower, beauty and the quality of life".

The Institute of Nutrition reported that 32.7 percent of infants and between 50-60 percent of breast feeding mothers in Vietnam face vitamin A deficiency. Therefore, the Institute advised that preventing malnutrition should go together with preventing vitamin A, iron and iodine deficiency.
