Vietnam, Qatar strengthen ties

(VOV) - Both sides have agreed to soon organize the first meeting of the Vietnam-Qatar Intergovernmental Committee, aiming to finalize a legal framework and set orientations for future cooperation in various fields.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh began his official visit to Qatar on March 24 at the invitation of Qatari Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani.

During his stay in Qatar, the Vietnamese diplomat held talks with his Qatari counterpart, paid a courtesy visit to Crown Prince Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and met with Minister of Social Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour Nasser bin Abdulla al-Hamidi, and Minister of Business and Trade Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani who is also Chairman of the Qatar-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee.

Minh conveyed greetings from Vietnamese senior leaders to the Qatari King and leaders, affirming that Vietnam is keen to develop all-round cooperation with their country.

Qatari leaders expressed their delight at the constant development of the bilateral relationship in recent times, adding that the Qatari King and Government paid heed to strengthening ties with Vietnam.

The two sides discussed measures to further increase the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment and labour. They also agreed to promote delegation exchange, work closely and support each other at regional and international forums.

The Qatari side expressed their hope to intensify investment in Vietnam for mutual benefit and showed their willingness to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese workers in the country.

They also suggested businesses should strengthen information exchange to seek cooperation opportunities for stronger economic, trade and investment relations.
