Vietnam, Russia look to stronger cooperation in crime prevention and combat

Minister of Public Security General To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on September 17 for Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia Kolokoltsev Vladimir Aleksandrovich who is on a visit to Vietnam for the 39th ASEANAPOL Conference.

Minister Lam highlighted the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia as a traditional and reliable partner of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and praised the effective implementation of agreements by the two sides’ senior officials when citing the action coordination plan between the two ministries for 2019-2021 as a case in point.

Under the plan, the two nations have frequently exchange information and share experiences in combating crimes, especially trans-national and organized crimes related their citizens. They also worked hand in hand to verify information and coordinated in hunting for and extraditing criminals.

The Vietnamese minister asked Russia to support Vietnam when the Southeast Asian country works as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure and the Chair of ASEAN in 2020.

He urged both sides to intensify delegation exchange, and continue to effectively carry out signed cooperation deals, while making greater efforts to combat and prevent hi-tech, economic and drug crimes.

Lam also said he hopes the two sides will step up stronger cooperation on training for law enforcement officers.
