Ho Chi Minh City seeks stronger links with Turin of Italy

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City desires to increase co-operative ties with the Italian city of Turin across the prioritised fields of economy, culture, education, and tourism.

Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, made the statement during a working session with Vice Mayor of the City of Turin Michela Favaro as part of his trip to the European country from October 26 to October 27.

At the meeting, Hoan introduced the huge potential of the southern Vietnamese city, as well as its strengths and priority for development both in mid and long terms.

Mutual understanding between the two countries and two cities has been strengthened over time, he affirmed, elaborating that exchanges between the two sides have been promoted through aspects such as tourism, education, and the business community.

Furthermore, he said the Honorary Consul of Vietnam and the Italy-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in Turin serve as a bridge to boost bilateral relations, recommending that Turin’s leaders continue to unite with Ho Chi Minh City to launch specific co-operative activities moving forward.

In response, Vice Mayor Favaro expressed her delight at the fruitful development of the twinned relations between the two cities over the past time, agreeing that both sides need to bolster ties to capitalise on the potential of the relations.

Turin hopes to enhance collaboration with the Vietnamese city in heritage preservation, culture, and tourism, she said, affirming that the southern city stands ready to work alongside the Honorary Consul of Vietnam to concretise co-operative activities.

In a working session held with Sandra Scagliotti, honorary consul of Vietnam in Torin, Hoan spoke highly of her contributions to Vietnam – Italy relations in the past and welcomed her study and issuance of publications about Vietnam. Indeed, this will help Italian and European friends gain a deeper insight into the nations tradition, culture, history, and people.

Scagliotti said that she fell in love with Vietnam when she was a student engaging in the movement against the US imperialists' war in Vietnam in the early 1970s, adding that President Ho Chi Minh was a shining example for patriotism and aspirations for national independence, freedom, and peace.

He therefore pledged his best efforts to contribute to the Vietnam – Italy co-operative ties.
In a meeting held with the Vietnamese Embassy, Hoan briefed Ambassador Duong Hai Hung of the outcomes of his working sessions with the Italian sides, and voiced his hope that the Vietnamese Embassy will continue to support strengthening bonds between Ho Chi Minh City and Turin as well as other Italian localities.

Ambassador Hung applauded Ho Chi Minh City’s strengths and highlighted Italian businesses’ interests when landing investment overseas.

He pledged support for both sides to carry out specific co-operative activities, thus boosting the multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.
