Parliamentary co-operation plays big role in Vietnam-India ties

VOV.VN - Parliamentary co-operation between Vietnam and India plays a major role in bilateral relations, Speaker of the Lok Sabha (House of Representatives) of India Om Birla affirmed at a meeting with a delegation of the Vietnam - India Parliamentary Friendship Group led by Duong Thanh Binh, head of the NA Standing Committee's Ombudsman Commission, on December 20.

Speaking at the meeting, Speaker Birla emphasized that promoting parliamentary linkages will help to strengthen the multidimensional relationship that exists between the two countries.

He also highlighted the importance of the country as a strategic partner of India in its Indo-Pacific vision.

Sharing common values between the two countries, including spiritual culture, the Indian legislator expressed his satisfaction at Vietnamese people accepting yoga, an intangible cultural heritage of India.

He also underscored the importance of nurturing a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect between both sides, calling for a common journey towards increased co-operation, deeper understanding, and prosperity of both countries’ people.

At the meeting, Binh, who is also chairman of the Vietnam - India Parliamentary Friendship Group, expressed his admiration for India's growing technological potential and stated his belief that Indian influence on the world in this field is increasingly spreading.

He also congratulated India on successfully performing the Chandrayaan and Aditya L1 space missions this year, as well as successfully assuming the role of Chairman of the G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during the year.

Binh also reiterated the common values of peace between the two peoples and underlined the need to make efforts towards building a better future, whilst also striving to enhance economic trade, tourism, and bilateral investment.
