EU eases regulations on instant noodles imported from Vietnam

VOV.VN - As of June 27 instant noodles exported from the nation to the EU market will not be required to be accompanied by a food safety inspection certificate issued by a competent Vietnamese agency.

This comes after the EU published an amendment on June 7 to regulation 2019/1973 on urgent measures to control food exported to the bloc.

In line with this the EU has officially brought Vietnamese instant noodles from Appendix II (controlled by food safety certificates at border gates) to Appendix I with an inspection frequency at the border being 20%.

Furthermore, the regulation outlines that bell peppers from the country are still in Appendix I with 50% inspection frequency at border gates. Okra and dragon fruit are still included in Appendix II with an inspection frequency of 50% and 20%, respectively.

This means that agricultural products remain unchanged from the regulation issued six months prior.

With these efforts, only six months after the EU approved the emergency control regulations for Vietnamese vermicelli and noodles, which came into effective from January 1, 2022, the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU have successfully persuaded the bloc to remove vermicelli and rice products from the list of food safety management and 18 months later. This is along with successfully putting instant noodles from Appendix II (controlled by food safety certificates at border gates) to Appendix I (controlled at border gates).

This thereby demonstrates the great and timely efforts made by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in terms of containing food safety, as well as actively supporting businesses in relation to solving difficulties.

According to information given by Tran Ngoc Quan, Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Belgium and the EU, the bloc still maintains control at border gates with a frequency of 20% that requires Vietnam to always maintain good food safety control for instant noodles.

If over the last six months of the year, Vietnamese instant noodles exported to the EU constitute violations against food safety regulations, the next EU roadmap will be to increase inspection to 50% at border gates, with Vietnamese instant noodles being brought back to Appendix II.
