Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet begins Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet left Phnom Penh for Hanoi on December 11 morning, beginning a two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

This is Hun Manet’s first visit to Vietnam in his capacity as Prime Minister of Cambodia.

Relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have developed positively over the years through regular contacts and meetings, helping to raise political trust and foster cooperation in various areas.

The two countries have maintained existing cooperation mechanisms, including the joint committee on economic, cultural and scientific and technological cooperation, and the cooperation and development conference between border localities of the two countries.

Economic and trade cooperation is considered a bright spot in bilateral cooperation, with two-way trade last year reaching US$6.5 billion.

Vietnam is currently Cambodia’s third largest trading partner, behind China and the United States, and the largest in ASEAN.

During his stay, PM Hun Manet will hold talks with PM Pham Minh Chinh on measures to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields, including education, culture, trade, investment, tourism, security and defense.

The PMs will also exchange views on a number of regional and world issues of mutual concern, witness the signing of a number of agreements, and co-chair a Vietnam – Cambodia trade and investment promotion forum.

PM Hun Manet will meet with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

He will also give an important speech on Cambodia’s economic development policy as well as economic-trade relations between Cambodia and Vietnam at Hanoi Foreign Trade University.
