Kien Giang, Preah Sihanouk strengthen cooperation

(VOV) - A two-year cooperation programme between Vietnam’s Kien Giang province and Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province has paid off.

This was reported at a seminar in Kien Giang’s Rach Gia City on June 14 to review the results of the programme between the two localities.

Provincial leaders spoke highly of the efforts made by local authorities, armed forces, and residents to implement the cooperative agreements and improve solidarity, friendship, and mutual development.

Coordination between the two provinces helped refine how border and adjacent territorial waters issues were settled. Authorities made sure to regularly update their cross-province colleagues on any crimes or hostile element activity threatening the two countries’ relationship.

The Kien Giang Provincial Department of Industry and Trade signed a memorandum of understanding with their Preah Sihanouk equivalent, facilitating trade activities and meeting local consumer demands.

The two provinces sponsored art troupe exchanges on the occasions of temple holidays and traditional Lunar New Year festivals to help their people deepen their understanding of their neighbours’ culture, customs, and traditions.

At the working session, both sides signed a cooperative agreement covering the 2013–2014 period, focusing on security and border maintenance, Vietnamese volunteer remains repatriation, trade and tourism development, agriculture, seafood, health care, and culture.
