Sharp rise in imports of seafood

VOV.VN - Despite a slight decrease in the imports of seafood in June, the value of seafood imports jumped 32.5% to US$860.67 million during the first half of this year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

There was growth seen in seafood imports from most markets over the period, compared to the same period last year. Only three markets suffered a decline, namely Myanmar (down 29.1% to US$1.4 million), Denmark (down 20.3% to US$9.68 million) and China (down 3.1% to US$58.21 million).

India was the biggest supplier of seafood products to Vietnam, making up 23.1% of the country’s total imports with US$198.55 million, up 16.9%, trailed by Norway (up 68.5% to US$88.29 million), Southeast Asia (up 44.9% to US$63.46 million) and Taiwan (up 32.4% to US$55.5 million).

It’s noteworthy that imports from Canada saw the highest growth, skyrocketing 105.6% to US$14.24 million. Other markets also witnessed tremendous growth such as the Republic of Korea (up 90.7% to US$41.56 million), Chile (up 78.3% to US$40.56 million) and Malaysia (up 75.5% to US$3.32 million).
