COVID-19: Vietnam records 31 more local infections, with 29 detected in Bac Ninh epicenter
VOV.VN - The Health Ministry confirmed 31 further fresh local cases of COVID-19 on May 23 morning, including 29 in Bac Ninh and 2 in Ninh Binh, raising the infection count of Vietnam's fourth coronavirus wave to 2,066.
Most of the domestic infections are identified as F1 contacts with other confirmed coronavirus patients or linked to previous outbreaks.
May 23 morning also saw the nation record two imported cases in Ninh Binh and Dong Nai provinces. One of them entered Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City from France ,and was quarantined immediately upon arrival in Dong Nai province.
Notably, five out of 30 pandemic-hit cities and provinces, namely Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, have gone 14 days without recording new cases of local transmission.
The latest infections brought the total locally-transmitted cases to 3,636, of which 2,066 have been found since the fourth coronavirus wave hit the country in late April.
The number of imported cases was 1,483, while the total recoveries reach 2,721.
One day earlier, the country posted a total of 143 cases of local transmission across 11 Vietnamese localities, with Bac Giang and Bac Ninh recording the highest number of active cases.
According to the Expanded National Immunization Programme, as many as 1,027,659 frontline healthcare workers along with members of community-based anti-COVID-19 groups have been injected with the COVID-19 vaccine, with a total of 987 being inoculated in Tay Ninh province on May 22.
