First gold for Vietnam at ASIAD Hangzhou

VOV.VN - Marksman Pham Quang Huy on September 28 brought home the first gold medal for Vietnam at the ongoing 19th Asian games (ASIAD) getting underway in Hangzhou, China.

Huy snatched the gold in the men’s individual 10m air pistol, scoring a total of 240.5 points, leaving behind Lee Wonho of the Republic of Korea in second place at 239.4 points, and Vladimir Svechnikov of Uzbekistan in third place at 219.9 points.

Earlier the same day, Vietnamese marksmen Lai Cong Minh, Pham Quang Huy and Phan Cong Minh also secured a bronze medal in the men’s team 10m air pistol, scoring 1,730 points, just four points behind gold medalist India.

On September 28, Vietnamese athletes are scheduled to compete in shooting, boxing, table tennis, women’s football, swimming, Chinese chess, fencing, esports, golf, and gymnastics.  

On September 27, Vietnamese athletes won four bronze medals in Wushu and Taekwondo.
