Vietnam ranks second globally for bauxite reserves

Globally, bauxite reserves amount to 32 billion tonnes, with Guinea having the highest amount (7.4 billion), followed by Vietnam (5.8 billion), Australia (5.3 billion), Brazil (2.7 billion), and Jamaica (2 billion).

Bauxite is refined into alumina, which is then smelted into aluminum, the lightweight metal used in packaging, airplanes, and construction.

In Vietnam, the majority of bauxites are in the Central Highlands, with the largest reserves located in Dak Nong. The province has the most potential for developing alumina and features the largest aluminum smelting industry in the country.

With the largest reserves of bauxites, Dak Nong is determined to develop the industrial production of alumina, aluminum smelting, and energy in association with the goals of socio-economic development, environmental protection, and national defence and security assurance.

The province is therefore focused on developing its alumina and aluminum industry in order to create a driving force for economic development.

By 2030, the province aims to become a locality home to a dynamic and sustainable economy in the Central Highlands. Dak Nong is striving to become the national centre of bauxite - aluminum and post-aluminum industry, the renewable energy center of the region and an eco-tourism hub.
