First eye tumor unit for children established in Vietnam

VOV.VN - An Eye Tumor Unit for Children, the first of its kind in Vietnam, has been established at the Central Eye Hospital in Hanoi.

Nguyen Tuan Hung, a representative of the Central Eye Hospital, says each year there are roughly 1,000 children suffering from eye tumors who come to the hospital to receive an examination.

However, due to the lack of a separate treatment unit, patients must receive treatment at clinical departments. In addition, the number of people suffering malignant eye tumors is large, especially among children.

According to doctors working at the hospital, there is currently no separate treatment centre for eye tumors in Vietnam, with ophthalmic oncologists being mainly doctors specialising in ophthalmology.

Therefore, Hung says the establishment of the unit aims to detect and treat all oncological and ophthalmic diseases, research new treatment techniques, and lay the initial foundation for eye tumor treatment in Vietnam.
