VOV to introduce folk culture in broadcasting

(VOV) -Introducing a folk culture is part of what Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) wishes to share with other participants in the 2013 Radio Asia Conference to be held in Hanoi from July 29-31, said VOV Director General, Nguyen Dang Tien.

Excerpts from an interview he granted to media workers on this occasion:

Reporter: Could you talk about the significance of the coming radio Asia conference within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)?

Director General Tien:  Since VOV became a full member of ABU in 1964, the Radio has made active contributions to the Union’s activities. It’s an honour for VOV to organise this year’s event, as the union has placed great trust in the radio station.

Hosting Radio Asia 2013 will help VOV increase its role and prestige in the regional broadcasting industry.

Themed “Radio and Social Media: Where to Next”, Radio Asia 2013 is of great significance, not only for VOV, but also for the broadcasting industry in the region and the world. During the event, radio broadcasters and policymakers will share views on the future trend of the broadcasting sector, which is predicted to face new challenges as it seeks to modernise and meet increasing demand from the public.

Reporter: What will VOV share with international broadcasters in the current context when the internet and social media are likely to take the stage?

Director General Tien:  Strong growth in information technology and a boom in social networks are posing numerous challenges to the regional broadcasting industry, and Vietnam is no exception. Broadcasters and managers are striving to help audiences gain fast access to updated and accurate information.

In addition, they need to deal with many urgent issues, such as information management, copyright and occupational ethics.

The broadcasting industry must overcome difficulties to affirm its rising role in the new era of modernisation and renovation.

During the coming conference, VOV representatives are expected to talk about two major subjects, namely Vietnamese folk culture in broadcasting, and radio talk show.

In recent years, VOV has quickly and effectively applied internet services to provide audiences with radio and TV programmes through its official website vov.vn. Early this year, VOV’s new channel, entitled radiovietnam.vn, made its debut with a host of radio programmes produced by 63 provincial radio stations across the country.

VOV has won a contract to exclusively broadcast football matches of the Premier League – English FA Cup through radio and online media services.

Reporter: What about VOV’s preparatory work for Radio Asia 2013?

Director General Tien:  I strongly believe that with its capacity and experience VOV will successfully host the coming event. At present, all preparatory work for the conference has been completed.

Since 2012, under the guidelines and instructions of the Government and relevant agencies, VOV has thoroughly prepared for Radio Asia 2013 to ensure that participants in the event will feel satisfaction at VOV’s organisational work.

Through the conference, VOV wishes to inform international guests about the local broadcasting industry and help them gain a better understanding of Vietnam’s beautiful land and people.

Reporter: Thank you.
