COVID-19: 4,773 new cases infected, 4,323 more patients recover

VOV.VN - An additional 4,773 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam during the past 12 hours, while 4,323 more patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Of the newly infected cases, 4,772 were locally acquired, mostly in southern localities, and a case was reported upon returning from overseas, said the MoH in its 06.00pm coronavirus update.  

About 949 cases were detected in the community through random testing or test screening at healthcare facilities, while the remaining 3,823 cases were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas.

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, led all cities and provinces in infection numbers, registering 2,877 cases.

It was followed by Binh Duong 738, Long An 320, Dong Nai 166, Dong Thap 142, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau 133, all in the south.

The past 12 hours saw Da Nang and Phu Yen in the central region record 54 and 37 cases respectively, while Hanoi capital topped northern localities, logging 58 cases.

Earlier on the morning of the same day, the MoH confirmed 2,821 locally acquired infections, raising Vietnam’s 24-hour caseload to 7,594.

Data from the MoH show that during the past 24 hours, HCM City recorded 4,592 locally acquired infections, followed by Binh Duong 1,144, Long An 499, Dong Nai 325, Ba Ria – Vung Tau 185, Dong Thap 157, and Tay Ninh 139. All these localities are in the south.

As of 06.00 pm on July 29 Vietnam has confirmed 124,635 new locally transmitted cases following the resurgence of the virus in late April and 128,413 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020.

As many as 31,780 patients have recovered from the disease, including 4,323 cases announced on July 29.
