Hanoi’s egg coffee attracts foreign travellers

VOV.VN - The unique and delicious egg coffee of Hanoi’s Old Quarter has become a tourist attraction in its own right, being sold in old-fashioned cafes with good service and reasonable prices.

Enjoying coffee in Hanoi’s Old Quarter has become a popular treat for foreign tourists when visiting the capital city.
Giang coffee shop is a typical example. It is hidden away down a narrow alley, yet still manages to draw a large number of customers.
The narrow alley leading to the entrance of a 70-year old coffee shop.
Nguyen Van Dao, the first son of Mr Nguyen Van Giang who founded Giang coffee shop in 1946 says their unique egg coffee was first made by his father when he was a bartender for the five-star Metropole Hanoi hotel.
During peak season from November to March, Giang coffee shop is packed with visitors.
Foreign visitors are particularly interested in the egg coffee with cocoa powder.
Visitors wait patiently for a space to sit in the cafe.

The formula for this drink has not changed over the past 70 years, with main ingredients including egg yolk, coffee powder, condensed milk, butter, and cheese.
The coffee shop owner says he imports coffee from a prestigious company in Lam Dong province and grinds the roasted coffee every week to ensure it has the freshest flavor.

The café has filed for trademark protection of their coffee

Hanoians also love this egg coffee.
