Deputy PM Quang greets Cambodian Deputy PM and Defence Minister

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang paid a courtesy visit on May 5 to Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Samdech Tea Banh, chairman of the organising committee of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in 2023 (CAMSOC), at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy PM Quang congratulated Cambodia for their various domestic and foreign achievements over recent time, expressing his belief that they will continue to reap many more new achievements in the process of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, and prosperous nation.

Expressing a positive impression of witnessing the rapid change of Phnom Penh during this visit, Deputy PM Quang said he believes that the ongoing 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games slated for June will be a great success. Indeed, he has high hopes that it will meet the expectations of the Cambodian people over the past 60 years, thereby helping to enhance Cambodia's role and position in the region and in the world, as well as actively contributing to the process of building a peaceful, stable, united, and prosperous ASEAN Community.

The Deputy PM affirmed that the Vietnamese delegation's participation in the 32nd SEA Games with more than 1,000 people in the delegation participation in 30 of the 36 sports taking place at the event shows the high level of responsibility and active support of Vietnam for Cambodia in particular and ASEAN in general.

For his part, Cambodian Deputy PM Banh warmly welcomed the Vietnamese sports delegation attending the regional sporting event, with great appreciation for the Vietnamese Deputy PM's attendance at the opening ceremony, as well as the active participation of Vietnamese athletes.

He emphasized that Cambodia desires to make a historical mark after more than 60 years of establishment and development of the SEA Games.

Recalling Vietnam's success as the host of the 31st SEA Games and hailing the country’s sharing of experience and active support for Cambodia to competently organise the 32nd SEA Games, Deputy PM Banh affirmed that the host country will create the best possible conditions for the Vietnamese sports delegation, as well as those from other countries, including free accommodation for athletes and television rights.

Glad to see that the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable co-operation between the two countries have been increasingly consolidated and developed well, the two Deputy PMs believe that under the close guidance of both nations' senior leaders, the two sides will work together to effectively implement reached agreements.

The two sides agreed to continue maintaining political contacts, further step up economic-trade ties, and promote other fields of co-operation with a particular focus on strengthening people-to-people exchanges, especially through tourism and sports activities such as the SEA Games as a means of contributing to cultivating the traditional friendship between the two countries as well as ASEAN solidarity.

As part of this occasion, the two sides consented to continue bolstering co-operation and mutual support at regional and international forums, whilst actively contributing to reinforcing solidarity and centrality of ASEAN.
