Thuy Linh qualifies for quarter-finals of Canada open badminton tournament
VOV.VN - Vietnamese player Nguyen Thuy Linh earned a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Canada open badminton tournament following her strong performance recorded in the qualification round.
In the women’s singles which took place on July 6, Linh defeated Vivien Sandorhazi of Hungary 2-0 after a 31-minute game.
She will move on to face Michelle Li of the host nation Canada in the quarter-finals after the talented Canadian easily beat Rachael Darragh of India 2-0 recently.
The two have previously played before at the world badminton championships in 2018, with Thuy Linh overcoming Michelle Li 2-1 in the qualifiers.
The 2023 Canada open badminton tournament takes place in Calgary, Canada, from July 4 to July 9 and has a total prize money of US$420,000 on offer.
Thuy Linh is the only Vietnamese badminton player competing at the event, with the local player aiming to accumulate points ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
