Vietnamese women’s football team up in latest FIFA rankings

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national women’s football team have jumped a notch to 32nd place globally following the latest June rankings released by the world’s football governing body FIFA.

The FIFA rankings updated on June 9 showed that Vietnamese players accumulated an additional 5.23 points to total 1,648.89 points.

The move up the rankings can be attributed to the team’s impressive victory in the first round of the Asian Qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

The SEA Games 32 champions also ranked fifth in Asia, behind Australia, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea.

Vietnam continued to top the Southeast Asian region, followed by Thailand and the Philippines.

The team coached by experienced expert Mai Duc Chung are undergoing a training camp in Germany and Poland where they will play some friendlies ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2023 tournament will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.

In Group E, Vietnam will take on defending champions the United States on July 22, Portugal on July 27, and the Netherlands on August 1.
