Hi, welcome to VOVNews mailbag where we answer all your questions relating to our programmes.

Bac Ha asked about how to hear VOV on a Pocket PC

“I have a Pocket PC and use a software programme to listen to audio files. The software programme asks me to fill in URL in the form: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx. Could you give me technical parameters of VOV channels webcast on VOVNews so that I can hear VOV on my Pocket PC. Thank you.”

We got contact with the technical section and found out that currently our website does not support PDA or Pocket PC. We hope you can find another way to listen to our audio file.

Do Thanh Long asked for the broadcasting time of the English programme

“I want to know which VOV channel airs the English programme”

VOV’s English programme is aired on VOV6 – the overseas service channel. You can visit our website and click the icon VOV6 on the right hand side of the site and see the frequency of the English programme. In addition, VOV also has another English programme for the foreign community in Vietnam (VOV5), but this programme is not yet launched on the Internet.

Thuy Nga wants to know useful programmes for children on VOV

“I am concerned about the increasing number of short sighted children nowadays. To keep my children away from the disease, I ask them to spending more time listening to VOV programmes to relax and get information rather than watching TV – one of the major causes leading to the disease. Could you help me to get the schedule of VOV programmes and suggest useful programmes for children aged from five to 12? Thank you.”

VOV broadcasts the Children’s Programmes on the Cultural and Social Affairs Channel (VOV2) at a frequency of 100MHz. Your children can listen to the: Children’s Music Programme from 07.05 to 07.45 (rebroadcast from 19.15 to 19.30); the Stage Arts for Children Programme from 15.30 to 16.00 (rebroadcast from 20.15 to 20.45), and the Fairy Tales Programme from 21.30 to 21.45. In addition, you can tell your children to log onto VOVNews to listen to the children’s songs they like. We hope you and your children have time to relax with VOV programmes.

Nguyen Le Manh asked about procedures to help poor students access bank loans.

“In a recent VOV programme, I heard about a Government decree allowing poor students to access bank loans for their studies. It was a pity that I did not catch all the information about the decree. Would you help me to find and send the full text of the document to me via my email address le_manhacc2000@vietnamnet.vn so that I can apply for loans as soon as possible. Thank you.”

To get bank loans, a student must meet four conditions. First, the average mark must be more than 5.0. Second, the family must state in the letter of application that they will pay debt if the student drops school, moves to another school, or cannot pay the debt after graduation. Third, the local People’s Committee where the student lives must notify the authorities of his/her residential status. Fourth, the student must present remarks from his school on his learning ability.

According to the current document, each student can borrow up to VND300,000. You can contact the school’s Politics-Student division and the Youth Union for necessary procedures, or you can directly get instructions at the Bank for Social Policy chapter at 17 Chuong Duong wharf, district 1 in HCM City.

Thu Hoai wanted to listen to the Chau Van (Ceremonial singing) song My Mother.

“I found that folksongs aired by VOV are very interesting. Although I just graduated from university, I prefer Cheo (popular theatre) to pop music. I like Cheo and Chau Van melodies performed by artists Hong Ngat and Thanh Hoai. I used to record through the radio, but the quality was bad. I have looked for any album performed by Hong Ngat, but I failed to find one. I really want to have the song “My Mother” presented by Hong Ngat as a small gift to my mother.”

Currently, we posted several Cheo songs performed by Hong Ngat on VOVNews. We will look for the song you requested and post it on the web as soon as possible.
