President Nguyen Minh Triet sent a massage of congratulations on May 9 to his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

In the letter, the Vietnamese state leader wrote: “May 9 stands in humankind’s history with the great victory of the Red Army and the people of the former Soviet Union, which saved people from the fascist disaster, ended World War II and brought a peaceful life to many nations.”

As a nation, which suffered many losses in wars, the Vietnamese people share sympathy for the great sacrifices the Russian people and nations of the former Soviet Union made during their national defence to obtain the victory, he said.

“Together with people all over the world to celebrate the victory over fascism, Vietnam is proud of being on the same side as the people of the former Soviet Union and democratic and progressive forces in the struggle against fascism for peace of mankind,” the message said.

With strength from the great victory of the people of the former Soviet Union, the Vietnamese people brought with the August Revolution in 1945 to a successful end, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The president said history linked the two nations of Vietnam and Russia, the Vietnamese President stated. Over the past 60 years, Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation at present, have built up a fine friendship and multifaceted cooperation. Nowadays, Vietnam and Russia are strategic partners and together deepening bilateral relations for the benefit of the two people and for peace, stability and development in the world.
