More than 300 overseas Vietnamese people (OVs) from Laos and Thailand gathered at a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on February 5.

The more than 500 members of the Liaison Committee for Vietnamese in Laos and Thailand (LCV) aimed to gather all overseas Vietnamese from Laos and Thailand who are working in the city to support each other in their daily lives and contribute to the city’s development.

The LCV has organised a wide range of activities, such as meetings of OVs on National Day and traditional Pimay-Soongkrank New Year celebration of Laos and Thailand, as well as various charitable programmes.

It has also promoted people-to-people diplomacy to strengthen the friendly relationships between Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.

On the occasion, the LCV introduced its new executive committee of 11 members headed by Hoang Ngoc Hung and presented gifts to eight elderly people between 80 and 85 years old.

Phakhavat Tangskul, the Thai Vice Consult General in Ho Chi Minh City, said he was very happy that OVs have preserved their cultural identity and good memories of Thailand by wearing Thai costumes, speaking fluent Thai and eating Thai food. The overseas Vietnamese community in Thailand are cultural ambassadors, playing an important role in promoting bilateral economic and cultural ties and mutual understanding.
