Leading global professors to attend geotechnics conference in Hanoi

The 5th International Conference on Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure Development (GEOTEC HANOI 2023) will take place at the National Convention Centre on May 14 and 15, with the participation of world leading professors, organisers told the press on April 17.

The event will be held by FECON Corporation in collaboration with the Vietnam Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Thuy Loi University, Japanese Geotechnical Society and Vietnam Petroleum Institute. New solutions in geotechnics towards sustainable infrastructure development are part of the focus of the conference.

First held in 2011, GEOTEC HANOI 2023 is a prestigious scientific forum in geotechnics, as reflected in the increasing numbers of participating countries and businesses, articles covering the event and visitors.

Through the conferences, technologies have been adopted in Vietnam, meeting the country’s requirements for sustainable infrastructure, including one on landslide prevention introduced at the 2019 edition.

This year’s conference will cover the themes of deep foundations, tunneling and underground spaces, ground improvement, geotechnical modelling and monitoring, landslide and erosion, and offshore wind power and coastal geotechnics.

Keynote speakers include Prof. Alessandro Mandolini from University of Campania (Italy), Prof. Giulia M.B. Viggiani from University of Cambridge (UK), Prof. Rainer Massarsch from Geo Risk & Vibration Scandinavia AB (Sweden), Prof. Antonio Gens from Technical University of Catalonia (Spain), Prof. Mitsu Okamura from Ehime University (Japan), who is also Vice President of the Japanese Geotechnical Society, and Prof. Richard Jardine from Imperial College London (UK).

Prior to the conference, the participants are scheduled to make a field trip to the construction site of Hanoi's metro line No.3.
