Dance team Lyricist named as winners of Southeast Asian competition

VOV.VN - Dance troupe Lyricist, representing Vietnam, have won the “Super 24” dance competition which recently concluded in Singapore.

The team’s win marks the first time that a Vietnamese art troupe has finished in first place in a Southeast Asian dance competition.

The local dancers beat off competition from 14 other teams from across Southeast Asia including Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines to be crowned as champions.

Their 90-second performance which was titled “Be Yourself” scored 19 points out of a possible 20.

Larkin Poynton, one of the four judges of the “Super 24” dance competition, said Lyricist had brought a well-prepared and emotional routine to the event’s finale. Indeed, the group had showed their growth in each of their performances throughout the competition.

The “Super 24” competition debuted in 2012 and was originally only open to teams from Singapore. Since opening, the competition has been held annually and has quickly grown into one of the most anticipated dance events in Southeast Asia.

Each participating team must have a total of 24 members aged under 35 who are all from the same country.

The show’s events see teams performing a choreographed piece in exactly 90 seconds on a stage that measures eight square metres with a judge on each side.
