Vietnamese PM to attend G7 summit in Japan

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the expanded G7 Summit in Japan this week at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This year, the G7 summit is scheduled to take place in Hiroshima city from May 19 to 21.

This is the third time Vietnam has attended such a meeting and the second time at the invitation of the Japanese Prime Minister.

Besides Vietnam, Indonesia was also invited to participate in this year’s expanded meeting.

Japan is Vietnam’s leading economic partner and the first G7 country to recognize Vietnam’s market economy status. It is Vietnam’s fourth largest trading partner, with the two-way trade turnover last year reaching nearly US$50 billion, up from US$42.7 billion in 2021.

As of March 2023, Japan had more than 5,000 valid projects valued at nearly US$70 billion, ranking third out of 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Japan is the largest ODA donor to Vietnam. Its total loan value as of the end of fiscal year 2020 was JPY2,812.8 billion (US$27.5 billion).
