Vietnam, Mexico examine ways to boost bilateral ties
VOV.VN - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception on March 28 for Mexican Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carmen Moreno Toscano who is in the country from March 27 to March 29 as part of an official visit and to co-chair the two ministries’ political consultation.
During the meeting Minister Son affirmed that the Vietnamese side always places importance on and hopes to further deepen its traditional friendship and ties with Mexico towards the establishment of a more suitable partnership framework moving forward.
He proposed that the two ministries intensify delegation exchanges; maintain close co-operation, co-ordination, and support for each other at international ordinations and multilateral forums that both are members to, such as the UN and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC); and enhance collaboration between Vietnam and the Pacific Alliance (AP), as well as between Mexico and ASEAN.
Undersecretary Toscano stressed that Vietnam represents one of Mexico's key political and economic partners in Asia, particularly as both countries are members of the APEC and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue build close linkages with its Vietnamese counterpart to outline orientations and measures aimed at deepening the bilateral ties and bring about substantive benefits to the two countries’ peoples.
The same day saw Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet and the Mexican official co-chair the seventh political consultation aimed at sharing information on each country’s situation, agreeing on measures to enhance bilateral relations, and exchange views on regional and international issues of shared concern.
The two sides therefore consented to continue stepping up bilateral co-operation, especially in economics and trade; bringing into full play advantages of the CPTPP; and fine-tuning a legal corridor in a bid to increase the effectiveness of collaboration activities.
It remains imperative to maintain and promote the efficiency of the political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, as well as the joint committee on economic, trade, and investment ties; and speed up negotiations towards the signing of co-operation documents in the fields of diplomacy, finance, agriculture, animal and plant quarantine, education-training, and defence.
After the session, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on collaboration in diplomatic training between the two ministries.
Within the framework of the visit, Undersecretary Toscano also paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and worked with the Vietnam-Mexico Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group.
