A ministerial meeting on information technology and communications of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) will be organised in Hanoi from November 28 - December 1 with the participation of 250 members of 42 delegations from ASEM countries.

At a press conference held in Hanoi on November 22, Deputy Minister of Post and Telematics Nguyen Thanh Hung said that the meeting will be the first ASEM ministerial-level event in the information technology and communications industries.

The meeting resulted from Vietnam's initiative on ASEM cooperation in applying information technology to develop human resources and enhance capacity, which was approved by leaders of the 39 ASEM countries at the 5th ASEM Summit in Hanoi in October 2004.

The meeting aims to organise and multiply initiatives in information communication technology (ICT) which have been implemented in ASEM countries, connect ICT initiatives of other regions in which ASEM countries are members, and focus businesses' attention on IT applications to be developed by the two continents.
