The annual dialogue was organized within the framework of a high-level agreement reached between the two countries during Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Russia in September 2007.

The two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as bilateral cooperation and the external relations of Vietnam and Russia.

Measures to strengthen cooperation between two foreign ministries at the United Nations and other international forums, particularly regional integration mechanisms were also discussed.

During their stay in Moscow, the Vietnamese delegation met with the Vice Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Bulavin V.I and scholars and experts of the Russian Academy of Sciences to exchange issues of mutual concern.
