VOV.VN - Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Binh Thanh district of Ho Chi Minh City has begun to attract larger crowds with less than one week to go before the Lunar New Year holiday, known locally as Tet, while COVID-19 precautions continue to be kept in place.

A large number of people head back to their hometowns to gather with their families as Tet is drawing near, resulting in bustling scenes at Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station, a contrast to the quiet scenes from a few days ago.

Many passengers wait for buses travelling to the central and the Central Highland regions.

The ticket counters are constantly crowded, although the scenes are not as busy as in previous years due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of passengers this year is only half of that from the same period in 2021, whilst ticket prices are more expensive compared to normal days.

The Bus Station requires passengers to follow COVID-19 preventive measures, such as wearing masks, keeping a safe distance from others, and checking body temperatures. Passengers are also required to make health declarations before boarding the bus.

Large numbers of people have returned to their hometowns after Ho Chi Minh City loosened COVID-19 restrictions in October. However, many of them have decided to stay in the southern city this year to enjoy Tet celebrations.

The Ministry of Health has issued guidelines for people as they return to their hometowns during Tet. Only people coming from red zones or high-risk areas are required to undergo COVID-19 testing.
